Why study in Austria?

Although the overall size of Austria as a country is small, it is hardly a reason for not coming to Austria for higher studies. There is a collection of reasons for students to flock to this country that is roughly the size of Maine, a state in the USA. Additionally, population wise, it is home to a population that is less than that of London or Paris.

In contrast to the size of its population, Austria is home to a number of universities that have produced some of the best in a lot of fields from music to art and everything in between. Students who aim to study in Austria can choose from a plethora of universities. These universities form a part of the framework that are known as institutions that impart quality tertiary education.

In addition, the following are some of the aspects that score highly when it comes to furthering one's education in Austria.

• Austrian institutions have set examples in many fields of study that have encouraged students to look at Austria as a favorite destination for further education.
• A broad spectrum of educational opportunities as also engineering study in Austria are available to students desirous of making Austria their preferred country to gain knowledge beyond academics.
• Most of the universities teaching applied sciences offer bachelor's, master's and doctoral programs.
• In addition to the above, there are diploma programs that are offered after the completion of the above.
• The overall cost of education in Austria is low because of many provisions by the government of Austria.
• Different universities have differing rules for waiver of fees or reimbursement which can be enquired with them on their site or with study in Austria consultants before applying.
• One of the unique features that is rarely seen in other countries is that Austrian education is unrestricted in access even to stateless people.
• Although most of the courses are taught in the German language, there are a few which are imparted in English.

Austria (PAID UNIVERSITY)

To apply you need the following documents:

1. Fully completed and signed application form for a residence permit for students (Aufenthaltsbewilligung "Studierender" explanation)

2. Recent colour photograph, size between 3.5 x 4.5 cm

3. Valid Passport

4. Birth Certificate

5. Notification of admission (Zulassungsbescheid, Aufnahmebestätigung) of the university or university of applied sciences (Fachhochschule) or other educational institution

6. Proof of sufficient financial means to finance your stay: students up to 24 years of age have to prove that they have at least 481.75 euros per month, students of 24 years of age or older have to prove that they have at least 872.31 euros per month [as of 2015] - these amounts have to be proved for a maximum of 12 months - e.g. by means of a savings account or a bank account at a bank (the account has to be accessible from Austria) or a (declaration of guarantee) of a person living in Austria or proof of purchase of traveller’s cheques for the necessary amount or a confirmation of the award of a scholarship/grant; if the costs for accommodation exceed 278.72 euros/month, you have to prove additional funds

7. Proof of accommodation in Austria: e.g. tenancy contract, assignment for the right of use of accommodation with private person (e.g. family member, flat share, friend, ...), accommodation contract of a student hall of residence, confirmation of the reservation of accommodation by the OeAD Housing Office

8. Proof of a health insurance ("travel health insurance") valid from entry to the beginning of your studies in Austria or to the beginning of your student insurance. The application for a student insurance with the Austrian national health insurance carrier (Gebietskrankenkasse) has to be proved upon request of the Austrian authority.

9. Police record/certificate of good conduct (where available).
